What does “message type” mean?

Post by K0AMY »

I have changed WPSD profile to DB25. The option: "Message Type" confuses me. Think default is set to "unconfirmed". Description shows "unconfirmed" radio will not reply. Why would you want the radio to not reply? I think I'm looking at this wrong? All channels I have programmed I left on "unconfirmed", but when I key up it's not showing up on the WPSD Dashboard. Think I'm making an error somewhere.....? Thanks for the help. ~Amy

To be 100% honest, I have no idea either.. The description comes from the OEM CPS. The manual has a slightly better description;
12.15 Msg Type
This parameter allows user to decide which message type to be used when they
send a message to another radio.

Options:
Unconfirmed data: When the radio received the message from the
transmitter, it will not reply.

Confirmed data: When the radio received the message from the
transmitter, it will reply automatically.

Default: Unconfirmed data
If I were to guess, I'd say it's more to do with DMR SMS Messaging. Whether the radio sends an acknowledgement (ACK) / 'delivered' receipt back to the sender.
Since these radios are derived from commercial use.. it could even be used with some DMR Data transmissions and nothing to do with how DMR is used for Amateur Radio.

All of my channels are left on 'unconfirmed' and works just fine on my hotspot and local repeaters
